Whack-a-Mole Cache Builder

Make your own whack-a-mole geocache with a sharable play link.

Sign in to save this cache to your account

Free, just a username and passphrase, no email. Caches you build show up in My Caches so you can reopen and edit them without hunting for the edit link, and watch plays and wins. The same account syncs My Puzzle Texts across devices and manages your short links.

My Caches

Critters pop out of a grid of holes for a moment each. Players whack them for a point apiece, but cache containers pop up too, and smashing three of those ends the round on the spot however well they were scoring. So it is a game of aim as much as speed. Beat the target score you set before the clock runs out and the cache is revealed.

This one is checked more strictly than the other arcade builders. The round is served to the player one wave at a time, and never as a seed the page could unfold ahead of time, so the game cannot be computed and submitted without playing it. Every whack is checked against the wave the server actually sent, including whether a human could have reacted that fast.

Anything you create here is public to anyone with the link, and you are responsible for what you publish. Keep a copy of your edit key, it is the only way to change or delete your puzzle later.

Your puzzle

Shown to players as a link to your cache page.

Only the site admin can see this, in case they need to reach you about your cache. Never shown to players.

How long a player has. The pace speeds up as the round goes on, so a 90 second round gets genuinely frantic near the end.

More holes means more to watch. On a phone, 9 is the comfortable one.

What pops up

Whichever you pick, the thing players must not hit is always a cache container. They get three strikes before the round ends.

On win, reveal

Shown only after a player beats your target score. Reveal either the final coordinates or a keyword, not both.

Where can I host an image for free?

Paste a direct https:// link to an image. Free image hosts that give a direct link include ImgBB, postimages.org, and Cloudinary. A geocaching.com image link works too. The link must start with https://.

Keep your cache in play to keep it live. Share the play link so people visit it; unused caches are cleaned up over time.
