Waffle hides six five-letter words in one grid, three reading across and three reading down, sharing letters where they cross. Every letter is already on the board, just in the wrong place. Players drag one letter onto another to swap the two, and after each swap the board recolours: green means a letter is home, yellow means it belongs somewhere else in its row or column. Every classic board we ship can be solved in ten swaps, and the swaps left over become stars. There is a Deluxe size too: a 7 by 7 grid of eight seven-letter words, four across and four down, which takes twenty swaps. Solve it inside the budget and your final coordinates or keyword are revealed. The solution and the final answer stay on the server, so nothing is hidden in the page for a player to peek at.

The board
Boards come from a bank we generated and measured offline. Every one of them is built from common five-letter words and is exactly ten swaps from solved, so no cache can be unwinnable. Pick a size and a difficulty, then press Surprise me until you like the look of one.
Fifteen is the classic. Ten is the shortest solution, so ten swaps means no room for a single mistake. Players earn a star for every swap they have left, up to five.
